City of Fullerton
Know as the “Educational Community.” Fullerton is home to five institutions of higher learning. Chief among them are California State University, Fullerton, the largest campus in the CSU system, with over 35,000 graduate and undergraduate students, and Fullerton College, the oldest community college in Orange County. Not to be forgotten are the Fullerton School District and Fullerton Joint Union High School District, which offer award-winning education opportunities for more than 30,000 primary and secondary students.
Like many other Orange County communities, agriculture was Fullerton’s dominant industry in its early years. The 1910’s and 1920’s heralded an economic boom for the young city, sparked in part by the discovery of oil in the hills north of Fullerton (Brea).
Fullerton entered the air age in 1927 with the establishment of Fullerton Municipal Airport, which remains as the last general aviation field operating in Orange County.
Fullerton’s charming downtown provides residents and visitors alike with an abundance of dining and entertainment options as well as numerous seasonal events, including the Thursday Evening Market, Winter-Fest and Railroad Days. Dozens of historical buildings, including many on the National Register of Historic Places, create a sense of place in Fullerton not found anywhere else in Orange County.
Nearly 50 parks and 28 miles of recreational trails grace Fullerton’s landscape. Plans are under way to renovate Hillcrest Park, a jewel in the center of Fullerton that on a clear day provides views of the ocean.
Independence Park, home of the Janet Evans Swim Complex has become a recreation destination.
